Collision at Chain Bridge and Hunter Mill roads shuts down intersection for 35 minutes

A collision at the intersection of Chain Bridge and Hunter Mill roads stopped traffic for 35 minutes Sunday afternoon, police said.

The driver a 2002 Honda, heading northbound on Chain Bridge Road, took a left onto Hunter Mill Road and struck a 2006 Ford heading southbound, said Officer Bud Walker, spokesperson for Fairfax County Police. No injuries reported.

The driver of the Ford was an 87-year-old man from Bethesda, Md.

Police found the driver of the Honda, 20-year-old Leslie Burkowitz, of 6544 Raftelis Road in Burke, at fault for failure to yield right-of-way on a left turn, Walker said.

The call came into dispatch at 2:20 p.m. At about 2:30 p.m., the intersection was shut down, tying up traffic until it was opened again at about 3:05 p.m.
