This Saturday, May 5, is guaranteed to be a fiesta like no other! The calendar's cooperation in bringing together two very special and important occasions means fun for all, including your furry friends.
First, the 12th annual Pet Fiesta will take place at the Reston Town Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The event kicks off with the Tails on Trails Dog Walk at 10 a.m. This leisurely 1-mile walk for people and their pets around the town center, neighborhoods and wooded walking trails raises funds to help support GoodDogz.org's two major annual adoption events: the Pet Fiesta and Home 4 the Holidays.
The Pet Fiesta brings together nearly 40 rescue groups with hundreds of adoptable dogs and cats, pet-centric vendors, entertainers, bands, food vendors, and thousands of people, for a daylong celebration. The action takes place down Market Street, the main thoroughfare at Reston Town Center. Tents line the street on both sides, and the main stage near Clyde's is host to several bands, including perennial favorite Dry Mill Road Band and the South Bay Band. You'll also see the Sun Dance performance troupe and the HeartBeats dance group.
At 12:45 p.m. be sure to check out the haute couture of the Doghouse of Style Fashion Show, and at 1 p.m. take part in the Paws-itively Fun Pet Contests. There will also be face painters, balloon creations, caricature artists and a huge host of vendors offering everything from fancy collars and harnesses to all natural pet foods to veterinary services. In addition to the restaurants at the town center, there will be a variety of food vendors to whet your appetite. Come meet well-known pet-centric authors Randy Plante and Ingrid King at the new Authors Showcase.
If you are looking for that special bond with a companion pet, this is your chance to meet purebreds and mutts alike of every size, shape and color. Trained adoption counselors will be on hand to answer your questions and help you find the right match for you, and a forever home for a lucky dog or cat.
Plan to mix-up the action with some salsa, chips, margaritas and other Cinco de Mayo faves one street over from the Pet Fiesta on Democracy Boulevard. Uncle Julio's Rio Grande Cafe is hosting a lively fiesta from 11 a.m. to midnight with a D.J. spinning tunes, outdoor food and drink, and water bowls for the pooches.
