NVFS to Offer Foster Care Training This September

In the state of Virginia, an estimated 200 children enter into the foster care system every month in need of a temporary home. With this need in mind, NVFS is recruiting adults from every community in Northern Virginia to participate in its next foster parent training, September 14, 21 and 28, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Cherrydale Baptist Church, 3910 Lorcom Lane, Arlington, Virginia 22207. Coffee and a light lunch will be provided.

The training is the first step into becoming a certified foster parent, and is also required for families interested in providing short-term weekend foster care. Trainees will learn about the foster care system, how to prepare your family for fostering, and how NVFS supports foster parents. Former foster youth and current foster families will share their experience and advice. Families must complete a home study, and foster parents must be at least 21 years old.

To register or for more information about becoming a foster parent, please visit www.nvfs.org/fostercare, or contact Ginny Snaider at 571.748.2557 or gsnaider@nvfs.org.
