NVFS Helps with Health Care Enrollment

(Oakton, VA – December 16, 2013)  Northern Virginia Family Service is currently helping individuals sign up for the Healthcare Marketplace at no cost, and will be hosting its second special enrollment event on Saturday, December 21 in Falls Church. The enrollment event will consist of an informational session for the public from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., and private enrollment sessions, available by appointment only, throughout the day.

December 23 is the deadline for those who want coverage to begin on January 1 and consumers can go towww.healthcare.gov to sign up. However, for those who may not understand the complexities of the health coverage requirement, NVFS has certified application counselors to help educate and enroll consumers in the new marketplace. Many of these volunteer counselors are bi- or multilingual to meet the needs of a multicultural audience. In addition to recruiting and training volunteers, NVFS is reaching out to its own client base and that of partner nonprofits in the Northern Virginia community, and hosting enrollment events in December and through March 2014.

“Through our health access programs and mission to assist the community, we already are working with Northern Virginia families who will benefit from having health insurance,” said NVFS Director of Health and Mental Health Services Cyndy Dailey. “Helping these individuals and their families get signed up is a priority for our agency as healthy living is the foundation of stable families. And,” she added, “In 2014 it’s the law.”

With all appointments booked for the upcoming December 21 event, NVFS will continue to conduct public outreach to help people sign up and hold additional enrollment events through the next three months. NVFS’ first enrollment event was a success as all clients were assisted and fully enrolled.

Individuals may contact NVFS at 571-748-2580 or health-help@nvfs.org for appointment times until enrollment ends on March 31, 2014. The public may still attend the information session on the 21st at 10 a.m. to learn about the new ACA – no appointment is necessary. The event will be held at 6400 Arlington Blvd.  Suite 110, Falls Church, VA 22042.
