Dear Shopper,

We are looking forward to another great weather day for a winter market, maybe the last such day for a while. We will be missing Ignacio for a few months, and I did tell him about all the kind words you had for him, his family, and his produce last week. But Heritage Farm and Tyson Farms will be bringing apples and veggies of some ilk for the remainder of the winter. We will even have some new recipes for potatoes from Mark Bittman’s New York Times magazine column.

And we will continue to have chicken, whole and parts, at Heritage Farm; it will just be frozen from now on. These are the months for great beef stews, soups, and roasts, so check out the recipe table for ideas for Doug’s delicious Angelic Beef.

Kylie is working on her Pop Shop Trailer. I can’t wait to see that, but it may be a week or so. Now that we have room, we may be able to encourage Doug to bring his food truck, too. I am also working on having well-known and well-reviewed food trucks stopping by on a regular schedule for the winter months.

If you would like to see more artisanal cheese in our market, let the Martins know. Nevin Hostetter has found a cheesemonger willing to send organic cheeses to our market with Heritage Farm, and I told him I would try to elicit some feedback. And I suggested that they bring some to sample soon. But ask about it now and let them know if you would be interested. It won’t be cheap, but it will be dear. It will be the kind of cheese you put out for company or use in a really good sandwich that you make for family or friends. Or that you place on a cheese board with a wonderful baguette from Valley View for your European dessert course. We will have a tasting soon!

Uncle Fred may be crying in his smoker about the Redskins loss, but he will continue to offer a Playoff Special for rec-room tailgaters though Super Bowl weekend.

As always, Nyall’s menu has something for everyone: Beef & Guinness, Cottage Pie Style, Mango Chicken, Late Thanksgiving, Breakfast, Sweet Potato & Apple, and Cheese & Onion.

Enjoy the lovely day and do something outdoors after you come to market. See you there!
