Did Monday's Snow Affect the DC Cherry Blossoms?

Heavy, wet snow blanketed the trees around the DC Tidal Basin Sunday night and Monday.

The National Park Service (NPS) assured local residents and visitors that the late March snow that fell Sunday and Monday should not affect the peak bloom dates of cherry blossom trees around the DC Tidal Basin, according to the Associated Press.

NPS originally predicted a peak bloom from March 26-30, but a colder-than-expected March meant NPS had to adjust those dates to April 3-6.

The 2013 Cherry Blossom Festival marks the 101st anniversary of the gift of the trees from Japan.
