How and Why We Eat

Deborah Freeman and Grace Meininger will lead a discussion of "How and Why We Eat" According to a New York Times review of Salt Sugar Fat (3/15/13) “There is a certain enlightened segment of America that relishes a good gastro-scolding, … But there is a much larger segment of America whose members heedlessly eat processed foods that make them overweight and unwell. Michael Moss, a dogged investigative reporter who neither scolds nor proselytizes, is here for them.”  Discussion will include how the giant food companies get us hooked on their products and how this affects not just us, but some of the poorest members of our society.

Deborah Freeman has been interested in health and nutrition for as long as she can remember.  Her Mother was an early health-food advocate, experimenting with an organic garden and introducing Deborah to whole-grain foods at an early age.  In December 2013 Deborah earned her Master’s degree in Exercise, Fitness, and Health Promotion from George Mason University.

Grace Meininger is a paralegal in a small law firm.
