Church Street Antiques opened recently in the yellow house at 131 Church St. NW in Vienna.

Love antiques and home interior design?

Today is the Church Street Antiques open house, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 p.m., with a ribbon cutting scheduled for 6:15 p.m. in Vienna.

Church Street Antiques, which opened recently in the yellow house at 131 Church St. NW in Vienna, offers vintage items repurposed into unique artwork. You might find old door knobs turned into hooks, lamps made out of tea cups or a necklace made out of antique keys.

"I was raised as a military brat with three older brothers," says the owner, Nanette Davidson, in the "About" section on her store's Web site.

"So I grew up seeing all sorts of international art, antiques and fascinating historical military items. I used to play in my grandparents attic who are of German and French decent so I would find old button up boots, china, wooden boxes, coins, fans and hand crocheted or embroidered items along with black and white photos."

Davidson started working in a fine antique store and organizing large antique shows when she graduated from Rollins College. She continued her antique business in Australia while raising three daughters. For many years, she was a dealer on the side while pursuing a successful career as a senior level headhunter.

She managed one of the largest antique stores in the Washington, DC area. "It is so rewarding to help people with function, art and history," she says. "There is never a dull moment, because I am always buying, selling or researching!"
