Readers' Choice Winner: Oakton Wine Shop

Congratulations to  for , which asked readers to name their favorite small-business retail shop in Oakton.

Oakton Wine Shop won with 58 percent of the total 264 votes. placed second with 28 percent of the vote.

"It is very humbling to be selected. Not many people get to have their dream job much less a job that does not seem like work," owner Bryan Gauthier wrote in an email to Oakton Patch. "I get both and as I said this is very humbling to even be nominated along with the other stores here in Oakton. Thank you to all of the readers for selecting us!"

Oakton Wine shop with the goal of creating a neighborhood wine store for amateurs and connoisseurs alike.

"The community has been awesome. We have been fortunate to have such a great relationship with the community since the day we opened," Gauthier wrote. "Every day we meet new people that have not been here before as well as our friends that keep coming back each week for our advice and events that we have in store. This is exactly the type of environment that I envisioned when I opened the shop last year. I look forward to many more years of being a part of the community."

Gauthier and the Oakton Wine Shop will be celebrating its Readers' Choice win by opening "a few special bottles to enjoy with the community" in addition to its normal weekly tasting.

Gauthier also wanted to extend his congratulations to his fellow small-business retailers because he knows how hard each of them works day after day.

"I know the challenges that we face each day and the amount of work that we all put in to be successful, which we all are as we open the doors each day!" Gauthier wrote. "This is not about a single business winning but bringing light to the many small businesses here in the community."
