Centreville Movie Theater: New Ownership in March?

Are Rave Centreville 12 and Fairfax Corner 14 soon to become a part of the Plano, Texas-based Cinemark movie theater chain?

There is talk around Centreville (and on Centreville Patch's Facebook page) that the movie theater, Rave Centreville 12, could soon close.

That's apparently not the case. "No, that's not true," two movie employees said Monday.

Patch was told unofficially Monday by the movie theater employees that the theater will instead be getting a new owner: Cinemark.

Cinemark is based in Plano, Texas. A call to Cinemark was not immediately returned, but Patch will update this story with any new information from Cinemark.

The current owner of the movie theater is Rave Cinemas.

An employee at Fairfax Corner 14, located at Fairfax Corner and also owned by Rave Motion Pictures, said Monday that the understanding is that Cinemark will soon become that theater's new owner as well. The employee did not have details or want to give their name to Patch.

From a Rave Motion Pictures listing on Facebook: "As of November 2012, Cinemark has entered into an agreement to purchase 32 Rave Cinema locations for $240 million. The sale is subject to antitrust approval. Only three locations will remain under the Rave Cinemas umbrella after the Cinemark sale is complete, however there is much speculation within the industry that these remaining three locations will either be sold or shuttered." FilmJournal.com also reported that news.

Cinemark is the owner of the theater in Aurora, Colo., that saw the shootings July 20 of 12 theater-goers. A law firm hired by the victims' families is suing Cinemark for failing to secure the complex, according to local news reports, during the premier showing of the Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises."

Unfortunately, I think for the Centreville theater to compete it needs to be remodeled. Personally I drive the extra 10 minute to the Fairfax Square theater. Theater seating, wider food selection etc.

I haven't been able to afford to go to the movies more than 1-2 times per year for a long time. A date night to the movies should NOT cost $50 for 2 tickets, popcorn and drinks. Not when we can go out to dinner 2x for that!

That's why I only go on the $5 days! :)

We drive to the Manassas Regal because they always offer coupons from Tickets at work (you can also buy them at Costco) If a movie isn't first run you can see it any time of day for 7-8 bucks. People just don't want to pay 15.00 for a night time movie if they can get it for half price somewhere else.
