Why Go: Now that the kids are back in school, you may need to stock up on a few more items—or start to prepare for winter. Head over to a community yard sale hosted by the Herndon/Reston Hot Mama Cooks Meetup group. In addition to kids’ clothes, there will be toys, books, and maternity clothes for sale. Plus, you can buy baked goodies to satisfy your shopping sweet tooth!

Why Go: Bring your family to the Oakton High Erg-a-Thon to support the school’s crew team. Team members will continually row on indoor rowing machines as long as they receive donations. All proceeds help fund the team’s season activities.

Why Go: Do you struggle to come up with bonding activities for you and your teen? Try attending a cooking class together! Everyone enjoys food, and most teens could use a little training in the kitchen.

Where/When: Hunters Woods Elementary School, 2401 Colts Neck Rd., Reston on Saturday, September 17 from 10:00am-1:00pm

Why Go: Hunters Woods Elementary School students are hosting their annual Chalk4Peace event. All children in attendance are invited to use chalk to sketch out their ideas for peace. In conjunction with this event, Bikes for the World will be collecting bikes to donate to people in Africa.

Pricing: Free; donations for the charity are welcome

 

Where/When: Jammin’ Java, 227 Maple Ave. E, Vienna on Saturday, September 17 from 11:00am-12:30pm

Why Go: Rocknoceros is a local favorite band among the under-10 set. Your youngsters will love their engaging show! The trio plays instruments, dances with the audience, sings silly songs, and invites lots of kid participation. This show is a great way to entertain kids—and help burn off some of their seemingly endless energy!
