Snowy Winter Predicted for Eastern United States

AccuWeather forecast says snow will show up in droves in February.

By Sharon McLoone

Love snow? You’ll likely be in luck this winter but you may have to wait until around February to see a whole lot of snowflakes.

The East likely will see temperatures just a bit above average in December and January but February will “be favorable” for big snowstorms and nor’easters along the East Coast, according to the 2013-14 winter forecast released Wednesday by forecasting firm AccuWeather.

Meteorologist Jack Boston predicted the West could see a cold and snowy beginning to the winter but wrapping up a bit warmer than average – opposite of the East Coast.

The Southeast and Gulf Coast are expected to see warmer than average winters with the northern and central regions seeing above-average amounts of snow.

The Farmers' Almanac released in August predicted a colder-than-normal winter 2013 for more than half of the United States, including a nor'easter due right around the beginning of February when the first Super Bowl held outdoors is scheduled for Feb. 2 at the Meadowlands in New Jersey.
