Photos: The 2013 Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards

Volunteers from across the county, including the Oakton area, were honored Thursday at an awards ceremony.

On Thursday, 154 individuals and groups were honored at the 21st Annual Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards. The ceremony was attended by hundreds at the Waterford in Springfield.

Volunteers were nominated in three categories: a competitive volunteer service award, a community champion award and benchmark award for a volunteer who contributed a certain number of hours to a cause in Fairfax County.

Established in 1993, the Fairfax County Volunteer Service Awards serve as a community-wide celebration of volunteerism. The Awards honors individuals, groups, and organizations, which have given outstanding volunteer service through a broad range of activities and programs.
