Why Go: If a low-key celebration is more your style, pick up some gunniess and a freshly baked loaf of Irish Soda Bread from Great Harvest on the way home from work.

2. Reston Town Center Pavilion and Clyde's of Reston Celebration

Where/When:  11905 Market Street, Reston, from 3 to 11 p.m.

Why Go: From the website "Join us on Market Street for The Running of the Leprechauns to benefit Reston Interfaith ($10 fee). Sign up at 3 p.m. The fun continues in the Pavilion with live music by Station 1201, dancing by The Maple Academy of Irish Dance, and fun Irish fare like Irish Nachos, Dublin Baked Potato, Hand-Carved Corned Beef, Guinness Beef Stew, and a Little Leprechaun menu for the kids. Face Painters, Moon Bounce and Balloon Twisters for Kids. Bring the whole family!"

3. St. Patrick's Day at The Auld Shebeen
Where/When: The Auld Shebeen, 3971 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax. All day.

Why Go: From the website " Spend St. Patrick's Day at Fairfax's favorite Irish Pub. Live music by the Flying Cows of Ventry and Edsall Road.  Irish Session Players and live Irish Dancers.   Dinner seatings available at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m."

Pricing:  $10 cover charge

4. Wildfire Restaurant,

Where/When: Tysons Galleria 3rd Floor, McLean. From 4 to 10 p.m.

Why Go:  Wildfire Tysons Corner celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with a “Nod to the Irish”—a three course, prix fixe menu that culminates with Chocolate Guinness Stout Cake. Why Go: The party started early Thursday with “Kegs and eggs” at 8 a.m. As the early-goers leave, head over to the pub for a traditional three-course irish meal. The Dirty Pints provide live music all day.
