Oakton Native Chosen for 'Survivor'

John Cochran has been a fan of the CBS show since the first season

John Cochran has been a fan of "Survivor" from the beginning.

In high school, he would write a "Survivor" newsletter that he would pass out to his friends. For his senior picture, the 2005 Flint Hill School graduate wore three buffs, the show's trademark bands: one on each arm and one on his forehead. His senior quote: The tribe has spoken.

Now Cochran, a 24-year-old Harvard Law student, joined the CBS show for the upcoming season, which will premiere Sept. 14.

"People are going to look at me and they're going to think I'm a nerd, which is accurate. They're going to think I'm weak, which is also accurate," Cochran said in a video on the show's website. "...I have tons of insecurities going into this. Right now my focus is to kind of push those down a little bit and remind myself why I'm excited to be here instead of why I'm mortified to be here."

On his bio page, Cochran showed a little more confidence, positive his ability to figure out people's personalities will get leave him the Sole Survivor.
