National Cabernet Day: Suggestions for Your Celebration

Oakton Wine Shop picks out its favorite cabernets

Today is National Cabernet Day, and we thought we'd help you pick out the best cabernets to celebrate. For an expert opinion, we called on , owner of .

Bryan picked out five wines from five different price points so you can choose just how much you want to splurge for this celebration.

  1. Silver Palm Cabernet ($16.99): A good everyday cabernet that is very versatile and enjoyable with food and on its own.
  2. Steele Red Hills Cabernet ($20.99): Beautiful fruit classic dark fruit flavors and nice tannins and structure with a touch of smoke flavors that would perfectly match with short ribs.
  3. Regusci Cabernet ($49.99): One of my favorite Napa cabs that has deep extraction of blackberries, currant, tobacco and nice amount of tannins that are well integrated, paired with that nice filet minion.
  4. Goldschmidt Vineyards Alexander Valley ($75.99): Elegance and deep extraction with a balance of tannins and acidity. Perfect for that special occasion.
  5. Peter Michael Les Pavot ($199.99): This is the bottle of cabernet that are what dreams are made of. When I have that super special occasion I want to celebrate, this is the bottle I want to drink. Elegance, richness, pure seductive flavors from start to finish. This bottle you want to lay down for 10+ years and enjoy.

Still not sure what to choose? Oakton Wine Shop is hosting a tasting from 4 to 7 p.m. today in honor of National Cabernet Day.
