Master Gardeners Offer Advice at Plant Clinic Saturday

Every Saturday, you can get advice at the Oakton Library.

This is the time of year when all of your hard work in the garden comes to fruition - or not.  Sometimes, for no apparent reason, tomatoes do not grow or ripen and plants refuse to flourish.

Fortunately, the Fairfax County Master Gardeners are available to help.

Each Saturday, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., Master Gardener volunteers are available at the Oakton Library, as well as other Fairfax County library locations at various days at times, to answer questions and solve gardening problems.

"We offer free advice on caring for plants, gardening fact sheets and home soil test kits," said Margaret Kerr-McKown, a volunteer for the Fairfax County Master Gardeners.

In addition, Master Gardeners can examine samples of plants or insects for diagnosis and if they do not know the answer, the samples can be sent to a lab for further examination.

"Gardening is frustrating and it is nice to have the Master Gardeners as a resource," Kerr-McKown said.

"It is free advice and neighbors helping neighbors," she added.
