Where/When: Phoenix Theatres Worldgate 9, 13025 Worldgate Drive, Herndon on Thursday from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Why Go: Are your kids budding foodies? Take them to the 20th annual Taste of the Town. You’ll get to sample great food from local restaurants and bid on a host of items — all in the name of the arts!

Pricing: Free to enter; lots of opportunities to bid on auction items for charity

Where/When: Thoreau Middle School, 2505 Cedar Lane, Vienna on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: Young children love fairy tales and older kids love to be entertained, so Thoreau Middle School’s presentation of “Once Upon a Mattress” will please the whole family. The musical is based on the classic story of “The Princess and the Pea.” Be sure to arrive early because the shows are expected to sell out!

Pricing: $5/ticket

Where/When: Terraset Elementary School, 11411 Ridge Heights Road, Reston on Sunday from noon-3 p.m.

Why Go: Terraset Elementary School is hosting and Earth Day Carnival. They aim to teach people the importance of energy conservation and environmentally-friendly programs. You can introduce your young children to environmentalism, and your older kids could use the carnival as an opportunity to find organizations where they could do community service.

Pricing: Free admission; rides and games range from $1 - $3 each

Where/When: Reston Regional Library, 11925 Bownman Towne Drive, Reston on Tuesday from 10:30-11:10 a.m.

Why Go: The twos don’t have to be terrible! You and your 2-year-old can enjoy some quality bonding time at the Reston Library for story time. It’s never too early to read to kids—especially curious and explorative toddlers!

Pricing: Free, but advance registration is required

Where/When: Ben & Jerry’s, 11411928 Market St., Reston on Tuesday from noon-8 p.m.

Why Go: Spring is here, and it’s time to enjoy the beautiful weather. What better way to indulge in the season than with a free ice cream cone? Your kids will love enjoying this special treat — and so will you!
