Where/When: Reston Regional Library, 11925 Bowman Towne Dr., Reston on Thursday, July 21 at 10:00am

Why Go: With record-high temperatures outside, it’s a good week to find a few indoor activities your kids will enjoy. Take your preschoolers to the Reston Library for story time. Little ones will enjoy the lively tales and parents will enjoy the air conditioning!

Where/When: Reston Town Center, 11900 Market St., Reston on Thursday, July 21 from 7:00-9:00pm

Why Go: Talented teen musicians trained at the School of Rock will perform at the Reston Town Center. Kids, teens, and adults will enjoy the classic rock tunes. All donations will be given to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington.

Pricing: Free, but donations accepted

Where/When: Sidney Lanier Middle School, 3801 Jermantown Rd., Fairfax on Friday, July 22 and Saturday, July 23 at 8 a.m.

Why Go: The Sound of Music is one of the most adored musicals of all time. Everyone knows the classic songs, so bring your whole family to see Fairfax City Theatre’s production of the show this weekend. This is another great way to beat the heat!

Pricing: $8 online, $12 at the door

Where/When: Lake Fairfax Park, 1400 Lake Fairfax Drive, Reston on Saturday, July 23 at 10 a.m.

Why Go: The Blue Sky Puppet Theatre troupe is a local professional group of puppeteers. In this show, they will tell the story of Rufus, a dog who has lost his owner. This group never fails to entertain! Start your weekend out with a great family fun show, and enjoy the story of Rufus!

Pricing: Free

Where/When: Fairfax High School, 3501 Rebel Run, Fairfax on Monday, July 25 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (and daily thereafter)

Why Go: If your kids are looking for ways to participate in sports during the summer off-season, sign them up for the Wizards/Mystics basketball camp. All of the coaches in the camp are trained professionals, and some of the Washington Wizards and Washington Mystics star athletes will drop by to visit—and inspire!—the campers. Campers are grouped by age and skill level, so children of any ability are encouraged to enroll.
