Grab & Go Kids Planner: Reston Zoo, Wild Tails, Water Balloons

Wildlife, water balloons, and the Reston Festival — there are lots of great summertime activities on the menu for families this week!

Where/When: Wolf Trap Foundation, 1645 Trap Rd., Vienna on Thursday, July 7, Friday, July 8, and Saturday, July 9 at 10 a.m.

Why Go: Treat kid to a double feature! Wolf Trap is presenting Hobey Ford’s puppet show followed by Robbie Schaefer’s sing-a-long. Young kids will delight at both of these fun and energetic acts!

Pricing: $8/pass for both shows

Where/When: Reston Zoo, 1228 Hunter Mill Rd., Vienna on Thursday, July 7 from 1-2:30 p.m.

Why Go: Kids love animals, so indulge their curiosity at one of the summer workshops at the Reston Zoo. This week’s theme is nocturnal animals. Your children will love to see animals that they may never have seen before.

Pricing: $20 for season pass holders/$25 for non-season pass holders

Where/When: Oakton Library, 10304 Lynnhaven Pl., Oakton on Friday, July 8 at 10:30am

Why Go: The Oakton Library is hosting a wildlife extravaganza! Wildlife experts will bring several types of animals and explain how they use their tails to communicate in the wild. This event is intended for kids aged 6-12.

Pricing: Free

Where/When: Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St. SE, Vienna on Friday, July 8 at 4:30pm

Why Go: What teenager doesn’t like water balloons? Let them throw water balloons to their hearts’ content at the Vienna Community Center’s Water Fun Day for teens. There will be lots of other activities—and snacks!—on hand as well.

Pricing: Free for Teen Center members

Where/When: Reston Town Center, 11900 Market St., Reston on Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10 from 11:00am-12:00am

Why Go: Summer is a great time to explore the area and get outside. Take the whole family to the Reston Festival. In addition to learning about the history of Reston, kids will enjoy the street performers, kids corner, and food vendors. There will also be live music throughout the day.
