Get Out: Patch's Pick-and-Choose Weekend Planner

Need a few ideas to get your weekend going? Look no further.

It’s Thursday. The weekend is so close you can almost taste it. Downside? You’ve got no idea what to do during your two days of freedom.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We've picked out some of the best events around Fairfax County for your done-work-outta-here time. Is it 5 p.m. Friday yet?

1. Patrick Henry Library Spring Mega Book Sale

Where/When: Patrick Henry Library, 101 Maple Avenue East, Vienna. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: It's time to stock on plenty of summer, beach reads!

Pricing: Free admission. Book prices vary. On Sunday, shoppers can fill a bag with books for $5.

Where/When: , 2960 Chain Bridge Rd, Oakton. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m

Why Go: You've loaded up on beach reads, now it's time to find the perfect pair of shades for the sunny weather.

Pricing: Admission is free.

3. 

Where/When: , 2500 James Madison Dr., Vienna. Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon.

Why Go: You may have stocked up on poolside sunglasses and a juicy book, but if the thought of donning a bathing suit has you clinging to those bulky winter sweaters, why not amp up your workout routine with this weekend's 5K?

Pricing: Entry fee is $15 for students and $20 for adults.

4. 

Where/When: , 4400 University Dr., Fairfax. Saturday, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Why Go: If you've been itching for an excuse to dust off your best black tie, you won't want to miss this event. According to the website, the gala is inspired by "Madame Butterfly," "including an "Asian essence" cocktail hour featuring artists, strolling musicians, and flora of Asia, followed by a gourmet dinner interspersed with live cabaret performances by beloved Virginia Opera performers. The evening will conclude with a raffle and auction of exquisite items, including items from and inspired by the set of Madama Butterfly."

Pricing: Tickets start at $250.

5. 

Where/When: , 1836 Westmoreland St, McLean. Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Why Go: According to the event listing, "The parade steps off at 8:00am from McLean High School.  The parade of young baseball and softball players will march down Westmoreland to the McLean fields.  Nearly 1,100 children are participating in the league’s softball and baseball programs this spring on 93 teams."
