Today in Oakton: Teen Volunteer Info Session, State of Education Forum in Fairfax

Everything you need to know today, September 18, in Oakton.

  1. The forecast calls for another nice day, with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures of 71 degrees and lows of 53 in the evening.
  2. Oakton High School is hosting a Back to School Night for parents in grades 11 and 12. The program begins at 7 p.m. at 2900 Sutton Road in Vienna. 
  3. The City of Fairfax Regional Library is inviting teens to learn more about volunteering in Fairfax County for an information session. The event is from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the library on 10360 North Street in Fairfax. 
  4. Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Karen Garza along with four others will be on a panel discussion called Behind the Headlines: the State of Education in Fairfax County. The forum is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fairfax High School on 3501 Rebel Run in Fairfax. The Washington Post-sponsored event is free. 
  5. The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority is hosting a work shop on “Promoting Your Startup: Musts and Mistakes.” The workshop is from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the FCEDA on 8300 Boone Boulevard, suite 450 in Tyson’s Corner.
