The Oakton Church of the Brethren Community Concert Series welcomes violinist Dr. Rami Kanaan and pianist Bettye Scott Cooley for a return engagement on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at 7 p.m. This time the duo will delight listeners with three sonatas for violin and piano by G.F. Handel. Through a lecture-recital format, the audience will learn about Handel's life and characteristics of the Baroque musical style, with short excerpts of the music to demonstrate different points, before the two musicians perform each piece in entirety.
The hour-long performance is free admission, with donations accepted.
Dr. Rami Kanaan is an adjunct professor of violin at Northern Virginia Community College (Alexandria Campus) and the author of two books on violin technique, which feature many exercises for the development of the fundamental techniques (like bow strokes, shifting and vibrato). Bettye Scott Cooley maintains a private piano studio in the Centreville area and is active as a church musician.
See the church website for more details. No reservations are needed; just come, take a seat and enjoy!
