A couple new teams snuck into the bottom of the Patch Northern Region Coaches Poll, as Yorktown and T.C. Williams, two teams that have been unranked all year, are now tied for 10th. As expected, Oakton and West Springfield held onto the top two spots in unanimous fashion. Edison and Stone Bridge flip-flopped spots from last week’s rankings, with the Eagles now ranked No. 3 and the Bulldogs No. 4. The top of the Patch Northern Region Coaches poll bunched up, but the top held steady, with T.C. Williams, Herndon, Chantilly and Annandale holding on to the first four spots for the final week of the regular season. There was little action anywhere in the rankings, as other than Woodson and Lake Braddock swapping the No. 5 and No. 7 spots, everything else remained the same. Oakton and West Springfield held onto the top two spots in the Patch Northern Region Girls Basketball Coaches Poll this week. Behind them, there was plenty of reshuffling, as only Edison held onto its spot at No. 4. Stone Bridge jumped up to No. 3 from No. 6, Madison plummeted to No. 10 from No. 5, and Westfield, ranked sixth last week, fell out of the rankings. Stability is the word in the Patch Northern Region Boys Basketball Coaches Poll, as six of the top eight spots remain unchanged with Woodson and Edison flip-flopping in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Herndon narrowed T.C. Williams’ grip on the top spot thanks to No. 4 Annandale’s win over the Titans last week. Herndon’s dramatic 56-53 win over Chantilly last week bumped the Hornets up a spot to No. 2 in the Patch Northern Region Coaches Rankings, and knocked Chantilly down a slot to No. 3. Until further notice, the top spot belongs to T.C. Williams, as the Titans again came in as a unanimous No. 1 selection this week. Two teams make their debuts in the rankings this week. With a win over still-No. 4 Annandale, the pollsters could no longer ignore the Lake Braddock Bruins, who came in at No. 7. Oakton held onto its unanimous No. 1 ranking in the Patch Northern Region Girls Coaches Poll, while West Springfield held just as strong at No. 2. The poll remained steady throughout, as no teams fell out of the rankings. Centreville debuted in a tie for 10th with Fairfax. The biggest movers were Stone Bridge, who jumped all the way to a tie for sixth after coming in at 10 in our last set of rankings. Conversely, Robinson fell to No. 8 from No. 4. T.C. Williams and Chantilly cemented their status as the top two in the Patch Northern Region Coaches Poll, as they both went 2-0 and have started to get a little separation from the rest of the pack. Herndon also went 2-0 last week, and held onto the third slot. Annandale moved up a spot to No. 4, and Woodson, ranked eighth last week, rounds out this week’s top five. There’s no doubt about who rules the Northern Region girls basketball universe. Our panel of coaches unanimously tabbed Oakton as the top team in the region with West Springfield nipping at their heels in the No. 2 spot. With the addition of Langley's Travis Hess to our panel, the top two in our boys Northern Region poll remained the same: T.C. Williams and Chantilly remain out in front of the pack. Six of our seven voters tabbed the Titans as the No. 1 team in the region, while one had the Chargers in the top spot. With the holidays in the past and district play beginning in earnest this week, we're unveiling our Northern Region Top 10 rankings this week. Six area coaches will provide us with their top 10 boys basketball teams in the region, which we will aggregate into one set of composite rankings.
