World Series Fact
The Tigers have been around since 1901, and the Giants even longer. But over the course of 108 World Series, this is the first time these two teams have met. This is Detroit's 11th World Series appearance, as it is the Giants' 19th time in the Fall Classic. With two teams with over a century of competition in the majors meeting for the first time in the World Series, this should be an interesting series.
Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval became the fourth player ever to hit three home runs in a World Series game.
Tigers pitcher Doug Fister took a Gregor Blanco line drive off the head, but stayed in the game to pitch six strong innings.
White Sox executive Ken Williams was promoted to executive vice president after 12 years as general manager, while Assistant General Manager Rick Hahn was promoted to take his place.
