Vienna All Stars Advance to Championship

Vienna will face Springfield at 2:30 p.m. today

The Vienna All Stars dominated offensively in a 14-6 win over the Greater Fairfax All Stars on Saturday to advance to the championship game in the Senior League (ages 16-18) tournament. 

Saturday's win also advances Vienna into the Virginia Babe Ruth League tournament. 

Vienna opened scoring in the first on an RBI line drive double from catcher Danny Zdancewicz, who went 4 for 5 and knocked in five runs. An error later in the inning allowed Vienna to add a second run.

In the third inning, Matt Livingston drove in Vienna's third run with a double to centerfield. Livingston also hit an RBI double in the fourth, driving in his second of four runs.

After Vienna allowed six runs in the top of the fifth, relinquishing their lead, they bounced back with six runs of their own. Nick Brunori led off for Vienna with a single, then Tommy Mulroney drew a walk. Two batters later, Patrick Eason also drew a walk to load the bases. Andrew Di Francisco and Jeff Cazenas hit line drive singles for one RBI each to tie the game. Zdancewicz then hit a bases clearing double to put Vienna up 9-6, and Livingston followed with an RBI single of his own to give Vienna a 10-6 advantage heading into the sixth.

Vienna added four more runs in the sixth, scoring two runs on RBI from Zdancewicz and Livingston and two runs because of an error. Greater Fairfax added one more run in the top of the seventh to put the final score at 14-7.

Vienna will face Springfield, who they beat 5-2 in the first round Friday, for the championship game 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Waters Field in Vienna.

Starting pitcher Nick Brady held Fairfax scoreless through four innings, striking out two. Tommy Mulroney pitched in relief.
