July 2-8: Derecho Leaves Oakton in the Dark

Loudoun Board of Supervisors votes to continue with the Silver Line project

The Loudoun Board of Supervisors voted 5-4 on Tuesday to continue participating with the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project, which will extend the now-under-construction Silver Line from Wiehle Avenue in Reston to Route 772 in Ashburn. Click here for a breakdown of the vote and response.

Military officials have determined the soldier who shot and killed PFC David Sharrett II, a 1998 Oakton High graduate, in a friendly fire incident should be terminated and stripped of a combat badge.

Christine Gray, principal at Oakton Elementary School, was recognized as one of Fairfax County's best principals in an annual survey of teachers in the Fairfax County Federation of Teachers.

Flint Hill School replaces nine-year football coach Michael Wright, who restarted the program in 2003, with Tom Verbanic, current head baseball coach and the former longtime coach of the Westfield Bulldogs.

The Oakton Otters followed up their victory over Fairfax with their first loss of the season in a close meet against Vienna Aquatic Club. The dive team evened its record to 1-1 with a win over Tuckahoe.

Vienna Post 180 defeated Fairfax 177 in the bottom of the 10th inning 2-1 Thursday after starting pitcher Mark Gunst gave up just one run over nine innings.
