The Oakton Cougars finished the regular season with a 6-2 victory over Westfield High School on Friday at the Ashburn Ice House.
The Cougars also celebrated Senior Night, with each senior — flanked by their parents — announced to the crowd prior to the game's start.
“The guys were pretty amped up for senior night,” Cougars’ head coach John Alexa said after the game. “Chris [Peterkin] normally plays [on the junior varsity team], but was called up for senior night. For him to score a goal too was very special for us.”

Oakton outshot Westfield 39-9 on the night and did an excellent job of getting bodies on the Bulldogs’ main scoring threats. In the second period goalie Jack Owens made a spectacular save on a penalty shot, allowing his team to take a 4-1 lead and control of the game going into the third and final period.
Despite recovering from a bad stretch of sickness that forced him to miss last week’s game, Sam Buck scored a goal. Buck has been one of Oakton’s strongest players this year, constantly displaying toughness and leadership for his teammates on the ice.

“He’s been a leader for us all year,” Alexa said referring to Buck. “Sam is always giving 100 percent and when teammates see that it makes them work just as hard.”
A different Oakton player scored each Cougar goal.
Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League named the 2010-2011 All-Star roster this week, with Oakton's Sam Buck and Sean Miller making the cut.
The Cougars finished the season 7-2-1 and second in the Norris Division. Their first-round opponent of the NVSHL playoffs is yet to be determined. The first round of playoffs begin Friday with games at the Ashburn Ice House and Skatequest in Reston.
