In both the end result and the final point, the 2010 volleyball season drew to a close in characteristic fashion for the Flint Hill School.

With the Huskies sitting on match point and the edge of a third consecutive state title, Flint Hill head coach Carrol Anderson described how her two most highly-acclaimed hitters teamed up to seal the win: Senior Tori Janowski set up the ball for for Marilyn Peizer,  and "she just buried a kill down the line. ... Everybody just started jumping up and down after that."

With the kill, Flint Hill put away Liberty Christian Academy, 25-11, 25-19, 25-23 on Saturday at The Covenant School in Charlottesville, clinching  the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association crown.

The win also put the final touches on an undefeated 33-0 season. In dropping only five sets all year, the Huskies extended a win streak from the 2009 season that now stands at 49 games, dating back to late September.

Flint Hill's schedule this season included some of the top public and private school teams in the area, and Anderson attributed her squad's success to its spirit.

"You know, it never hurts to have talent. It's great to have talent. But playing together and the chemistry that we have is the reason why I feel like we won this championship," Anderson said in a phone interview Saturday afternoon.

Saturday's contest was the fifth this week, not to mention the third championship match and the fourth away from home in that same time span. Anderson said she was pleased with her team's poise and was impressed that so many different girls made plays.

"I mean, that's the way it's been all season," she said.

In the opening set against the Bulldogs, who Anderson said "hustled really well and made a lot of hustle plays," the Huskies came out fast,  sending a message to their opponents and setting a tone for the championship.

"We knew, though, that was just one set," Anderson said.

Liberty Christian hung close throughout the rest of the match, but Anderson credited her side with stepping up and preventing any long runs from the Bulldogs.

The Huskies also clicked on offense, led by Peizer's 13 kills, with Janowski contributing nine and Audrey Dotson adding six. Anderson also pointed to strong attack play from seniors Terran Bargeron and Taylor Nelson, as well as sophomore Shelby McAlpine.

For her efforts in the VISAA tournament, Janowski was named the tournament's most valuable player. Peizer and Nelson were placed on the all-tournament team.

Janowski, Nelson and Peizer are part of an accomplished class of seven seniors. Jess Fellows and Meaghan Stertzer, the only two to play on Flint Hill's varsity team all four years of their high school careers, leave the program with 123 wins.

Anderson stressed that despite all of those wins, this season was something special.

"Thirty three and zero doesn't happen every year, and I hope that one day they realize what they accomplished," Anderson said. She said the undefeated season "is something they can look back on today, tomorrow, but also down the road, two years down the road, and they'll remember and keep with them."
