- Name: Girls Basketball
- School or league: Oakton High
- Award: Speech in honor of team on House floor
Del. Mark Keam (D-35th District) commended the Oakton High girls basketball team for their AAA Virginia High School League championship win on the floor of the House of Delegates on Saturday.
Keam, holding a T-shirt given to him by Oakton High seniors, congratulated the team for its first state title in the program's history after defeating Princess Anne High 58-39.
"I wanted to say this is a historic moment because not only was it the first time that our girls basketball team won the state championship, but it was also only the third time in the history of VHSL girls basketball team where the winning team won with 31 [wins] throughout the season, so we're really proud of that," Keam said.
Earlier in the week, Keam introduced a resolution in honor of the Oakton High girls swim and dive team for their state championship title.
