Fairfax Library Foundation Raises Over $130,000 for Literacy, Library
The Fairfax Library Foundation held its fourth annual A Library Jubilee! Let Loose in the Library! on Saturday, October 13th at Oakton Library in Oakton. More than 175 business and community leaders, elected officials, library patrons, benefactors and Friends Groups from Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax attended this special celebration (up nearly 50% from last year’s event) to raise funds to enhance programs and services of the Fairfax County Public Library. Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and musical entertainment from Oakton High School as they bid in live and silent auctions, which offered vacation packages, event tickets, dinners, autographed books, and other items made available from in-kind donations.
“The increasing number of attendees demonstrates how community members are viewing the library as an increasingly vital resource,” says Susan Harman, executive director. “We are thrilled to have the biggest turn out we’ve ever seen for this event: more sponsors, more guests, and most importantly more money raised for literacy and the Fairfax County Public Library.”
All proceeds from the Library Jubilee, co-chaired by Sushma Shenoy and Patty Reed, directly support library programs such as Early Literacy Outreach, Changing Lives through Literature, Scholarships, Author Presentations and Programs, and Books and Materials (including e-books and other electronic resources).
